Dartmouth Fellowship

Each year since 2007, Saguaro has sponsored an Engineering Research Fellowship that awards $10,000 to support research by an undergraduate student majoring in engineering sciences at Dartmouth College’s Thayer School of Engineering. The idea behind Saguaro’s fellowship arose because there are few fellowships that support research not connected to a particular course. The most recent recipient was Albert Kim, a student of Professor Ulrike Wegst. Kim’s fellowship seeks to improve hyperthermia cancer treatment through the development of nanoparticle embedded scaffolds created using the freeze-casting process. His honors thesis research explores fundamental structure-property-processing correlations in directionally solidified (i.e., ‘freeze-cast’) materials, applying his findings to the development of novel tissue scaffolds and multifunctional hybrid materials for biomedical applications
